OVERALL REFLECTION

THE BEGINNING

I began the SISLT PhD program with the desire to become a full time research and teaching professor in the mid-Missouri area.  I had the chance to work on several research projects as well as several applied projects.  My interest shifted from conducting research to applying research to find the best technology solutions for problems.  Projects such as creating a Problem Based Learning unit that was implemented for several semesters in an MU Environmental Engineering course really gave me a sense of satisfaction because it was being used by others.

Once I realized how much I enjoyed applying technology research to new projects, I decided to change to the Educational Specialist program.

FUTURE PLANS

I plan to continue to work for the University of Missouri Division of IT.  I will continue to support multiple digital archiving applications, but I am also taking on some managerial duties.  I want to use the knowledge and skills I have learned in the SISLT Educational Specialist program to help the Division of IT make information based decisions.  This may include conducting user feedback studies, revamping user training, cross training with fellow employees, and making decisions about purchasing new software.  I believe that my understanding of the educational benefits and usability of software will help the Division of IT provide better services to MU faculty, students and staff in the future.
